JT (Jatavia Shakara Johnson), born in 1992, teamed up with Yung Miami in 2017 to form City Girls. Described by Complex magazine, their name repped their rough Miami ‘hoods. Their first track “Fk Dat N*a” was a diss. Then they guested on Drake’s “In My Feelings” in 2018 – and blew up!
JT got sent to prison just as City Girls were popping off. After “Fk Dat N*a” dropped, she got arrested for identity theft and fraud. JT did 24 months in federal prison from 2018-2020. While locked up, Yung Miami promoted their music. JT’s first song out was “First Day Out” – a freestyle over a Twysted Genius beat.
In 2023, JT tweeted about starting therapy, encouraging fans to do the same. Fans praised her for advocating for mental health as a Black celeb. Lil Uzi supported JT too, saying her move was “positive” and wanting fans to “love themselves.”
